How to choose your perfect foundation shade with Donna

I get asked time and time again how to choose a foundation in your correct skin type and shade, either in store or online. So, I have put together a guide to hopefully make it easier for you.

FOLLOW THIS CHECKLIST TO WORK OUT THE BEST FOUNDATION FOR YOU:

1- What’s your skin type?
  • Oily
  • Dry
  • Combination

2.What is your skin undertone?
  • You are COOL if you have blue veins in your wrist ( seriously) ( think Nicole Kidman /Adele/Keira Knightly).
  • You are WARM if you have green veins  (think Jennifer Lopez/Eva Longoria/Kim Kardashian).
  • You are NEUTRAL if you have a combination of blue and green.  ( think Jennifer Aniston/Me/Blake Lively).

TIP:
WARM foundation colours are usually yellow, & golden in colour
COOL foundations are usually Pink or beige in colour

3. Decide what Formula you want:
  • If you have oily skin you will need a Matte, oil free foundation
  • If you have Dry skin you will need a Hydrating, moisture rich foundation
  • If you have Combination skin, You can choose a satin finish or either or the above.
(carefully look at the descriptions on the bottles to see which formula it is)

4. Decide what amount of coverage you want:
  • Full coverage – covers all blemishes, skin discolourations.
  • Sheer  – Covers imperfections, but you can see your natural skin through it.
5. How to try in store:
In store – try the samples on your chin, not your hand (our hands are a different colour form our faces)

6. How to choose a foundation shade on-line:
This is tricky, but if you can decide on all the points on the above checklist then it narrows down your choice of foundation. You then just have to decide on the colour shade.
On line, a few brands have digital foundation finders:
Mac, Charlotte Tilbury and Bobbi Brown have good ones and they offer samples if you are buying other products from their websites.

Feel unique send a sample of the foundation you have bought, so you can try that first and send back the unopened one if the shade is incorrect.

Or you can use https://findation.com/ which has over 68,000 shades . you just need to input your current foundation and shade.

I really hope this helps, I know what a minefield it can be and also a really expensive mistake if you choose the wrong foundation.
